Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that meet curriculum guidelines and accommodate students' language proficiency levels.
  • Teach academic subjects, such as math and science, in a second language.
  • Assess students' academic and language development progress through formal and informal evaluations.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to support student achievement and well-being.
  • Collaborate closely with the District Department Chair of ENL and Bilingual Programs K-5, teachers, and building administrators to enhance instructional practices and support student success.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with teaching methods, language acquisition research, and educational technology.
  • Incorporate cultural materials and perspectives into the curriculum to enhance students' learning experiences.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and other required documentation.
  • Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse needs of students.
Job Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:         

  • Must possess or be eligible for New York State Elementary Certification with a Bilingual Extension

 

COMMENTS:                   

A Bilingual Teacher plays a crucial role in the educational development of students who are speakers of multiple languages. This role involves teaching academic content in another language, ensuring that students meet educational standards while becoming proficient in both languages. Bilingual Teachers create and implement lesson plans, assess student performance, and collaborate with other educators and parents to support student success. They are instrumental in supporting students' language development, promoting bilingualism, and fostering an appreciation for cultural diversity.
