Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:     

• Develop, implement, and monitor special education policies, procedures, and programs in alignment with federal and state guidelines, such as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
• Supervise and evaluate CSE Chairpersons
• Supervise and evaluate special education staff, including teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service providers.
• Conduct CSE meetings
• Attend training and turn key information with pertinent staff
• Coordinate and facilitate professional development opportunities for special education staff and general education teachers regarding best practices in special education.
• Oversee the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
• Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent for Special Education and Pupil Services

Job Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

• Prior experience as a special education teacher, speech teacher, school social worker, psychologist or special education administrator
• Must possess valid NYS Administrative Certification

 

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:

• Demonstrated knowledge of Special Education Regulations, Transition, and Commencement Credentials

• Extensive knowledge of curriculum and instruction
• Knowledge and expertise with NYS Standards, Project Based Learning, and Differentiated Instruction
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, communication and writing skills
• The ability to motivate staff and students to achieve academic excellence

• Be a visionary leader
• Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply
• Training as a lead evaluator in the Danielson Rubric helpful
