Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Responsible for support and maintenance of instructional and office related technologies at the building level.

  • Assemble and disassemble classroom computer equipment, ongoing maintenance for computer hardware, assist teachers with use of such technologies.

  • Installation, maintenance and configuration of various hardware and software technologies, as it relates to network connectivity with office and classroom computer equipment and peripherals.

  • Technical skills should include, but are not limited to, the setup and configuration of personal computers, laptops, printers and related equipment, assist with the creation of network user accounts, an understanding of network connectivity in a server based network environment.

  • Maintain a current inventory of all technology in the building, in addition to installing and troubleshooting software applications in classrooms and office locations.

  • Maintain computer labs and occasionally assist with the ordering of related supplies, and warranty repairs.

  • LOCATION:            Technology Department 

  • HOURS:                  7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Job Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS  REQUIRED:      Must meet Civil Service Requirements 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

OPEN COMPETITIVE

Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and two (2) years of experience in a position working with information technology equipment.  At least one (1) year of experience must include system installation, configuration, evaluation and troubleshooting.

NOTES:

Additional education from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State, which includes six (6) credits per year in information technology or computer science, may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for all experience.        

Coursework in information technology from a non-degree-granting computer training institution may be accepted based upon credit hour equivalence.     

SPECIAL NOTE: Because of the rapid evolution of technology in this field, qualifying experience must have been gained within the last five (5) years.

            PROMOTIONAL

            Two (2) years of permanent competitive status as a Technical Support Representative, Computer Laboratory Assistant or Computer Technician.
